Former Paramedic Convicted in Wife, Father-in-Law Killings

A Montgomery County jury convicted former Nashville-area paramedic Matthew Konen in the 2021 deaths of his wife, Rachel Konen, and father-in-law, David Rodgers: first-degree murder for Rodgers’ death and criminally negligent homicide, a lesser charge than the original first-degree murder count, for Rachel’s. Prosecutors argued that divorce, child-support and alimony obligations gave Konen a financial motive, pointing to a life-insurance policy and messages about his personal and financial stress. The defense maintained that Rodgers shot Rachel and that Konen attacked him in self-defense, but jurors rejected that account. The charges had been dropped in 2023 and brought again after a new indictment in 2025; Konen is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 13, 2027.
