Former Teacher Indicted on Federal Drug, Gun Charges
A federal grand jury in Alabama indicted Langston Fremont Carter, a former teacher at Montgomery’s L.E.A.D. Academy, on four counts involving alleged possession of oxycodone and marijuana with intent to distribute, and firearm possession in connection with drug trafficking and in a school zone. Authorities say the investigation began after a student reported buying prescription pills from Carter at school; a search of Carter’s vehicle on campus allegedly uncovered drugs, distribution paraphernalia and a loaded handgun. Carter also faces state charges, and the school says he has been terminated. The federal charges are allegations, and Carter is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
