Former UVA Player’s Rape, Abduction Prosecution Halted
Prosecutors discontinued the rape and abduction case against former University of Virginia football player Jahmal Edrine at an October 22 hearing, weeks before his scheduled trial. The prosecutor said the nolle prosequi motion would allow more time to investigate and disputed claims in the defense’s public statement, emphasizing that the case was not necessarily over. Edrine’s attorneys said evidence they obtained, including material from the accuser’s cellphone, supported his account that the encounter was consensual; the allegations arose from an August 2025 incident. The charges’ discontinuation is not the same as a finding of innocence, and prosecutors’ stated intent to continue investigating contrasts with the defense’s characterization of the outcome as vindication.
