Four Break-Ins Hit Vallejo Animal Shelter
The Humane Society of the North Bay in Vallejo has suffered at least four overnight break-ins since Oct. 25, with someone forcing open storage sheds and damaging locks and the front gate. The intrusions have left staff worried about their safety and distressed animals, though no animals were reported physically harmed. Stolen property included medical equipment intended for a planned low-cost spay-and-neuter clinic; officials also found used needles and other drug paraphernalia. The damage and losses are a major setback for the donation-dependent shelter, with reported losses estimated at about $20,000 and shed replacement expected to cost thousands of dollars. Vallejo police have been notified, and shelter officials are seeking donations and help from contractors and security professionals to repair the property and improve safety.
