Four Killed in Oregon Elementary School Shooting

A 16-year-old, John J. Griffin II, is accused of killing three children and a teacher at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, on Oct. 15. His mother, Shauntai Nickerson, apologized to the victims’ families and said she remembered her son as “a good boy,” while saying she wished she could have prevented the attack. Reports say Griffin had previously attended the school and participated in a program for students with behavioral and social challenges; investigators have not announced a motive or publicly clarified how he obtained the shotgun used in the shooting. An armed father of students at the school, Kaylub Giamanco, pursued Griffin inside and fatally shot him, stopping the attack before police arrived.
