Four states set transgender sports-ban votes
Voters in Colorado, Washington, Arizona and Nebraska are weighing ballot measures that would ban or restrict transgender girls and women from competing on school sports teams matching their gender identities. The proposals could reverse existing protections, particularly in Colorado and Washington, where state policies have allowed transgender students to compete on those teams. In Colorado, Proposition 134 would cover K-12 and higher education, and school officials have warned it could affect students broadly and raise questions about gender checks. Opponents, including transgender athletes and advocates, say inclusion in sports provides community and support, while supporters frame the measures as protecting girls’ sports. The votes are part of a wider slate of education issues on the 2026 midterm ballots.
