Fourth TB Case Prompts Southwest High Testing
San Diego County health officials are investigating a possible tuberculosis exposure at Southwest High School from June 23, 2025, through March 6, 2026; it is the fourth active TB case associated with the school in two years. Investigators have not established a connection among the cases: two earlier samples were different strains, and genetic testing for the latest case is pending. The county is offering free testing to current students and staff during the first week of November, with chest X-rays available on campus, and has arranged a separate testing session for former students on Dec. 4. Officials recommend testing for people with frequent or prolonged indoor contact; all staff and nearly 90% of students exposed to earlier cases were tested and did not have active TB.
