France breaks 3-point record twice in one week at World Cup
France set a Women’s FIBA World Cup record by making 22 3-pointers in a 111-56 victory over Nigeria, surpassing Japan’s three-day-old mark of 20. Migna Toure’s 21st 3-pointer with 5:45 remaining broke the record before Dominique Malonga added the 22nd, while Gabby Williams scored 25 points and made six of eight from beyond the arc and Marine Johannes added five 3-pointers. France shot 22-for-40 from long range and had effectively secured the result by halftime, when it led with 14 3-pointers. Already assured of a quarterfinal berth, the French team will seek to carry its depth and perimeter shooting into the knockout rounds as it pursues its first World Cup medal since 1953.
