Free Election Day Transit Planned Across Multiple Regions
Guernsey lawmakers have proposed a £1.9 million, one-year pilot making the island’s buses free or nearly free, arguing it could ease cost-of-living pressures, especially for lower- and middle-income households. Separately, transit agencies in Birmingham, Suffolk, Winston-Salem, Bismarck and the Houston area plan free or discounted-access rides on Election Day, Nov. 3, 2026, to help residents reach polling places and other destinations; service schedules and eligibility rules vary. In Israel, many intercity bus routes and all rail lines are also set to be free during the election period, while short-distance and local bus fares remain in place.
