Fresenius-WuXi Pact Covers Up to 37 Biosimilars
Fresenius has signed an exclusive development agreement with WuXi Biologics giving it options to pursue up to 37 biosimilar candidates over the next decade, potentially expanding its portfolio from 29 marketed and pipeline molecules to 66 and targeting originator drugs with more than €370 billion in sales. Fresenius will select candidates based on its development and commercial criteria, pay WuXi for development work, and retain global commercialization rights and the products’ economics; the portfolio spans 13 therapeutic areas and several biologic technologies. Initial projects are expected to include biosimilar versions of the cancer drug Polivy and the eye-disease treatment Tepezza, while Fresenius will decide whether to use its wholly owned mAbxience network for manufacturing. The company said it would fund the agreement through ongoing operations without new debt and maintained its 2026 guidance and 2030 biopharma targets.
