Fresno County Confirms First Two Seasonal Flu Deaths
Fresno County has reported its first two influenza-associated deaths of the 2026–27 flu season as flu activity rises across the Central Valley, with health officials tracking emergency visits, hospitalizations and wastewater data. As of Oct. 24, California had reported 87 flu-associated deaths, including two pediatric deaths; nationwide, 83 deaths were reported among adults ages 18 to 64 and five among children. Health officials urge everyone 6 months and older to get an annual flu vaccine, with particular concern for people at higher risk of severe illness. They also recommend staying home when sick, washing hands, covering coughs and sneezes, and considering masks in crowded indoor spaces; people at higher risk should consult a health care provider about testing and treatment.
