G42 Weighs U.S. Majority Ownership for AI Chips

Abu Dhabi-based AI company G42 is exploring the sale of a majority stake to U.S. companies—or the creation of a new U.S. entity—to preserve access to advanced chips after its current authorization expires around April 2027. The discussions are preliminary, no deal has been finalized, and G42 has declined to comment on confidential transactions. The potential restructuring follows pressure from U.S. export controls and G42’s earlier removal of Huawei equipment and other China-linked holdings, as well as Microsoft’s $1.5 billion investment and board seat. G42 relies on U.S. suppliers such as Nvidia and is developing a large UAE-U.S. AI campus, making continued access to high-end semiconductors central to both the company’s plans and Abu Dhabi’s broader technology ambitions.
