Gabon Oil Rig Sinks, Five Crew Missing
Borr Drilling's Prospector 5 jack-up rig sank offshore Gabon on Saturday evening while preparing for a drilling campaign for BW Energy on the Dussafu Marine licence. Of 115 personnel onboard, 110 have been safely accounted for and five remain unaccounted for. Borr Drilling, BW Energy, and local authorities are running extensive search-and-rescue operations. Borr Drilling said preliminary information indicates the rig experienced a punch-through event during preload activities, resulting in loss of stability and the subsequent sinking. CEO Bruno Morand said: "We are deeply concerned for those who remain unaccounted for and everyone affected by this incident." He said the immediate priority is supporting search-and-rescue efforts and the welfare of all personnel involved. BW Energy shut production at its nearby MaBoMo facility as a precaution and reported no damage or pollution there. Five people remain missing.
