Gas Leaks Trigger Shelter Orders Across California
A natural gas leak in downtown San Luis Obispo prompted a shelter-in-place order Tuesday for about 100 people near the 900 block of Monterey Street as fire officials and SoCalGas crews worked to locate and isolate the leak. Authorities closed nearby portions of Osos and Morro streets and urged the public to avoid the area; the work was expected to take several hours. Officials said the exact source was not yet known, with one estimate placing it near 962 Monterey Street. It was the second major gas leak reported in downtown San Luis Obispo this month; an earlier leak on Oct. 9 disrupted the Farmers Market.
