Georgia gas prices hit $3.89 as national average sets Labor Day record

Georgia’s average regular-gas price reached $3.89 per gallon for Labor Day, up 11 cents from the previous week and 98 cents from a year earlier, as elevated crude-oil prices and strong holiday travel demand drove costs higher. Filling a typical 15-gallon tank costs about $58, adding pressure for drivers who said fuel expenses are competing with groceries, child care and other necessities. Savannah had the state’s highest metro price at about $3.96 per gallon, while Albany was the least expensive at roughly $3.81. The national average reached $4.14 per gallon, a record for Labor Day, amid tight inventories, high refinery utilization and constrained refined-fuel supplies.
