Gavi, UNICEF Agree 40% Malaria Vaccine Price Cut
UNICEF and Gavi have agreed to cut the price of the RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine, also known as Mosquirix, by about 40%, to €5.50 per dose starting in early 2027. The deal is expected to save about $50 million from 2027 to 2029, potentially allowing up to one million more children to receive the complete four-dose course or helping countries expand access to other childhood vaccines. The lower price depends on regulatory and manufacturing milestones, including WHO prequalification of a facility intended to increase supply. The agreement comes as demand grows: more than 74 million doses have been procured and delivered, and vaccination is part of routine immunization in 25 African countries.
