GE HealthCare reportedly nears $1B Sofie Biosciences acquisition

GE HealthCare is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire radiopharmaceutical developer Sofie Biosciences for about $1 billion, though no deal has been finalized. Sofie produces radioactive tracers and imaging agents used in PET scans, including compounds being studied for detecting cancers, and operates a U.S. network of radiopharmacies that can deliver short-lived isotopes to hospitals. The acquisition would strengthen GE HealthCare’s Pharmaceutical Diagnostics business by adding recurring consumable sales to its medical-imaging equipment operations and potentially expanding its position in future radioligand therapies. The transaction would be GE HealthCare’s second major acquisition since its separation from General Electric.
