Gillman Breaks Record, Ties Another in 45-10 Win

No. 3 Montana defeated Drake 45-10 to open the Bobby Kennedy era 2-0 and extend its strong home form. Eli Gillman led the Grizzlies with 105 rushing yards and four touchdowns, breaking Chase Reynolds’ school record for career rushing touchdowns with 53 and tying Reynolds’ mark of 59 total touchdowns. Quarterback Keali’i Ah Yat completed 27 of 40 passes for 282 yards and two touchdowns, including a 26-yard score to Brooks Davis. Drake briefly moved the ball early, but Montana’s defense limited the Bulldogs to a field goal before allowing a late touchdown. Montana’s performance was marred by 16 penalties for 138 yards, an issue Kennedy said the team must correct as tougher opponents approach. Gillman briefly left after taking a hard hit near the sideline but returned and is expected to continue against Utah Tech next week.
