Global EV Sales Fall 2%, Ending Growth Streak
Global electric-vehicle sales fell 2% in September to 2.15 million, ending six months of growth, though year-to-date sales remained 3% higher at 15.5 million. Record European sales of nearly 600,000 vehicles—about 10% above the previous monthly high—could not offset declines in China, where sales fell 18%, and North America, where they dropped 44%. The figures reflect strong demand and policy support in Europe, a soft Chinese domestic market, and the impact of U.S. federal EV tax credits expiring in September 2025; comparisons in North America are expected to ease as the market moves beyond the resulting slump.
