GM Plans $2 Billion Michigan Hybrid-Plant Investment
General Motors plans to invest more than $2 billion in the Lansing, Michigan, region, including $1.25 billion to prepare its Delta Township plant for future hybrid-electric vehicle production. GM has not announced a production start date or confirmed which models will get hybrid powertrains, but reports say the plant may build hybrid versions of the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia. The move reflects growing consumer demand for hybrids and a shift in GM’s strategy after a stronger focus on fully electric vehicles; the automaker is working with the Department of Energy to redirect a previously awarded manufacturing grant toward hybrid production.
