GM Plans Hybrids for Three SUVs at Lansing
General Motors is preparing its Lansing, Michigan, plant for hybrid-vehicle production as it expands beyond its recent emphasis on electric vehicles. Reports say the likely first models are hybrid versions of the Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave, which are built at the plant, though GM has not confirmed the nameplates or timing. The investment is part of more than $2 billion in planned spending across GM’s Lansing-area operations, with production reportedly possible in about three years. The move comes as demand for hybrids grows and GM seeks to catch up with competitors that have offered broader gas-electric lineups.
