Gold Recovers, Silver Slips Before US Inflation Data
Gold and silver traded unevenly as investors awaited U.S. producer- and consumer-price data for clues about the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate decision on Sept. 15–16. Domestic gold futures recovered after opening lower, supported by a weaker dollar, while silver remained volatile and ultimately declined. International gold prices edged lower as elevated oil prices, resilient U.S. employment data and the possibility of higher interest rates supported bond yields and weighed on the non-yielding metal. Softer inflation could revive expectations for lower rates and support precious metals, while stronger readings could bolster the dollar and deepen pressure on gold and silver. Traders are also monitoring geopolitical tensions and oil-supply risks, which could add to inflation concerns.
