Google Images Launches Pinterest-Style Redesign with AI
Google Images is marking its 25th anniversary with a Pinterest-like redesign that emphasizes discovery, featuring a real-time, personalized gallery and easily accessible ‘For You’ sections that tailor results to users’ interests and history. The overhaul includes a new, browseable homepage and the ability to save images to collections, mimicking familiar bookmarking and board-style organization. In addition, Google is introducing AI-generated imagery directly in Search via AI Overviews, using its Nano Banana model to create visuals from plain-language prompts when suitable images don’t exist online. The changes are rolling out gradually over the coming weeks in English-speaking desktop environments, with sign-in required to save collections and access personalized features. The anniversary narrative also nods to the origin of image search, sparked by the iconic green Versace dress worn by Jennifer Lopez at the 2000 Grammys, illustrating how people want to visually experience results beyond links. Overall, Google aims to keep users within its ecosystem by expanding discovery, personalization, and on-page image generation capabilities.
