Google, McKinsey Sign 320,000-Ton Brazil Carbon Removal Deal
Google and McKinsey have agreed to purchase a combined 320,000 metric tons of carbon-removal credits over 10 years from Working Trees’ silvopasture project in Brazil, under the Symbiosis Coalition. The deal will help finance restoration of 8,700 hectares of degraded and semi-degraded pasture within a broader 50,000-hectare effort, integrating native and commercial trees into cattle-grazing land so ranching can continue while carbon is stored and pressure on forests may be reduced. The project’s backers say the model could scale and provide benefits such as improved soil health and farm productivity, though its climate impact will depend on implementation and verified removals over time.
