Governors Host Diwali Celebrations Across Three States
Diwali celebrations hosted at governors’ residences in Montana, Nebraska and North Dakota brought state leaders together with Indian American communities, highlighting the festival’s growing recognition and cultural ties between India and the United States. Montana and North Dakota held their first Diwali events at their governors’ residences, with Montana attendees dancing to “London Thumakda” and North Dakota participants joining a traditional diya lighting. Nebraska’s celebration also recognized Indian Americans’ contributions to the state. In North Dakota, Governor Kelly Armstrong praised the community and pointed to opportunities for stronger India–North Dakota cooperation, particularly in agriculture and trade. The celebrations were part of broader cultural outreach by India’s Consulate General in Seattle, while cities in Washington state also issued Diwali proclamations.
