Greensboro Limits Sprinklers to Once Weekly as Calgary Readies Outdoor Ban
Greensboro and Calgary are imposing water restrictions to protect supplies under drought conditions and during major infrastructure work, respectively. Greensboro’s Stage 2 rules limit sprinkler use to once weekly, with watering by hand or drip irrigation still allowed; golf courses and institutional fields face overnight watering hours and a 40% reduction in use. The rules are set to last 30 days, with enforcement beginning Nov. 9, and violations may bring fines. Calgary’s Stage 4 restrictions begin Nov. 4 for about four weeks while crews connect a replacement Bearspaw South feeder main, temporarily reducing the amount of water available to the city and nearby communities. Outdoor water use will be prohibited, and residents and businesses are asked to conserve indoors by running only full appliance loads and taking shorter showers; the city aims to keep daily demand below 500 million liters.
