Grizzlies Honor Late Clarke Before Season Opener
The Memphis Grizzlies honored former forward Brandon Clarke before their season opener against the Utah Jazz, their first game since Clarke died in May at age 29. The team played a video featuring career highlights and his community connections, held a moment of silence, and will wear a “BC” patch this season. A Los Angeles County medical examiner ruled Clarke’s death accidental, citing the effects of heroin and cocaine. The ceremony was especially emotional for Jaren Jackson Jr., Clarke’s longtime teammate and close friend, who returned to Memphis as a member of the Jazz. Clarke played seven seasons for Memphis after starring at Gonzaga.
