Gruffalo Granny Launches Worldwide After 20-Year Wait

Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler have released “Gruffalo Granny,” the first new Gruffalo story in more than 20 years. The book follows the Gruffalo and his daughter as they prepare for a visit from Granny, while a captured mouse schemes to escape becoming their meal. Donaldson said she had carried the idea for two decades before her son encouraged her to develop it, and Scheffler said he was surprised to receive another manuscript. The creators’ books have sold more than 18 million copies worldwide and been translated into well over 100 languages, with publishers maintaining strict secrecy around the new release. The story is dedicated to Donaldson’s late husband and may draw inspiration from her family, including her nine grandchildren.
