GSK plans $800M Montgomery County expansion, 300 jobs
Gov. Josh Shapiro and DCED Secretary Rick Siger announced on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026, that GSK will invest more than $800 million to expand Upper Merion Township facilities in Montgomery County. Construction is expected to begin in 2027. The project will create more than 300 new jobs over five years and retain about 4,500 existing full-time positions statewide, bringing GSK's recent Pennsylvania commitments to nearly $1.7 billion after an October 2024 Marietta expansion of up to $800 million. GSK Global Supply Chain President Regis Simard said commercial and R&D manufacturing with advanced digital capabilities at Upper Merion will help accelerate development and supply of future medicines. Site director John Jewett said the Next Generation Flex Factory will focus on potential best-in-class medicines for respiratory disease and cancer and that the investment goes well beyond a single manufacturing building. Shapiro said GSK could have chosen anywhere in the world but renewed its commitment to the commonwealth and its workers. Siger said the decision is a strong signal of Pennsylvania's innovation ecosystem, talent, and infrastructure. Existing buildings will be demolished for a commercial-scale biologics facility, co-located R&D pilot plant, and centralized quality-control and MSAT hub. GSK is eligible for tax benefits through the QMIRD and MTC programs. No contested facts are reported.
