Gunmen ambush traffic police vehicle in Pakistan's Tank district

Gunmen opened fire on a traffic police vehicle in Wazirabad Bazaar, Tank district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Monday, September 28, 2026, killing three officers at the scene. The attack occurred within the jurisdiction of SMA police station. Attackers fled. Police cordoned off the area, collected evidence, and launched a search operation. District Police Officer Abdul Samad Khan said: "Police have sealed roads and other possible escape routes, including pedestrian tracks, to prevent the attackers from fleeing." Bodies and the injured were taken to District Headquarters Hospital. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack and offered condolences to the families. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed grief, requested a report, and offered condolences. Casualty counts beyond the three dead differ. Minute Mirror reported two civilians injured and said the attackers took the police vehicle, with the vehicle later recovered from Garah Budha. Business Recorder reported two other cops injured.
