Halloween Events, Voter Outreach Span Southwest
Halloween weekend coincides with early voting and Election Day preparations in several communities, prompting both celebrations and reminders to cast ballots. In San Luis, Arizona, local groups held a Halloween-themed event with voter information, trick-or-treating, games and other activities to help residents prepare for the November 3 election. Austin’s Mexican American Cultural Center is hosting a two-day family celebration of Halloween and Día de los Muertos, featuring its MexAmeriCon, music, dancing, community altars and hands-on activities. San Antonio’s weekend calendar likewise includes family-friendly Halloween events and continuing Día de los Muertos celebrations, while early voting ends October 30 and daylight saving time ends November 1. One columnist, meanwhile, reflects on the exhaustion of prolonged election and Halloween seasons, arguing that despite the alarming tone of political ads, past elections have not brought the apocalyptic consequences they threaten.
