Hamlin Gives Georgia Teacher $10,000
NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin surprised fifth-grade teacher Ansley Smallwood and her students at Lanier Elementary in Gainesville, Georgia, with classroom supplies and a $10,000 check. The gift, arranged with his sponsor Progressive Insurance, recognized Smallwood’s use of NASCAR to teach STEM subjects, including math, science, engineering and aerodynamics. Smallwood said the new resources will support hands-on learning, while Hamlin noted that the lessons could inspire students to pursue careers in motorsports.
