Hampton Council to Weigh Event Zones, Speed Cameras
Hampton City Council is preparing to ask Virginia lawmakers to authorize locally designated “pop-up zones,” where the city could apply additional enforcement and penalties to control large, unpermitted events. The request follows recurring gatherings at Buckroe Beach, including an April event, and comes as officials also plan to work with schools and colleges to remind students that permits are required. The council also wants authority to use speed cameras in documented high-risk neighborhood areas and apply the proceeds toward their costs.
