Hartford Man Dies in New Britain Stabbing

New Britain police say Carlos Pimentel Ortiz, 50, was arrested after a Sunday evening stabbing that killed Joseph Lugo, 45, of Hartford, and injured another man. Ortiz faces a murder charge and first-degree assault charges; he was initially taken into custody on an unrelated outstanding warrant and is being held at Hartford Correctional Center. Lugo died at a hospital from stab wounds, while the other victim’s injuries were reported as non-life-threatening. Police said several people were involved in the initial disturbance, the incident appears isolated, and there is no ongoing threat to the public; the investigation continues.
