Hawaii County Issues Pāpaʻikou Boil-Water Notice

Hawaiʻi County has issued a precautionary boil-water notice for customers served by the Kaʻieʻie Tank in Pāpaʻikou, advising residents to boil water for at least one minute or use bottled water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice and other food-related uses until further testing is complete. The notice followed reports of discolored water; the county is investigating, flushing the system and hauling water to the tank. Officials said recent routine samples were normal and there was no reason to believe the water was contaminated, but the boil notice is a precaution. A potable-water tanker is available at Mamalahoa Highway and Mill Road, across from Kimura General Store.
