Gait Study Context Expands to Dementia Risk Research
A UK-led program examining early dementia indicators places the planned 50-adult gait study within a broader body of research on dementia risk, including links between sleep quality and brain white matter damage, the promise of a multi-ancestry polygenic risk score for improved risk prediction across diverse populations, and evidence that menopause‑related hormone therapy may be associated with lower dementia risk. Public awareness remains low among adults over 40, and dementia prevalence is projected to rise toward 1.4 million by 2040. These findings underscore the multifactorial nature of dementia risk—spanning sleep, genetics, and sex hormones—and highlight the need for cautious interpretation and further research.
