Suspected Measles Death Reported in Pennsylvania

A 40-year-old unvaccinated woman in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, died from complications associated with suspected measles, according to the county coroner; laboratory confirmation and federal recognition remain pending. Her death would be the third measles-related death reported in Pennsylvania in 2026, following the August deaths of two Lancaster County infants. One infant died from measles after being born with Amish lethal microcephaly, while the other tested positive for measles but died from a ruptured spleen; measles was listed as a significant condition but was not judged to have caused the injury.
