PepsiCo recalls 122,000 Gatorade cases over undeclared dyes
PepsiCo voluntarily recalled 122,021 cases of 28-ounce Gatorade Lemon Lime, Lemon Lime Zero, Orange, and Orange Zero after the bottles were found to contain undeclared Yellow No. 5 and/or Yellow No. 6 dyes. The company started the recall on Sept. 25; the products went to 37 states. On Oct. 2 the FDA classified it Class II, meaning exposure may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects and the chance of serious harm is remote. The recall number is H-0009-2027. No press release was issued, according to the FDA enforcement report. Rated outlets agreed on the case count, flavors, dates, and Class II meaning; no material factual dispute appears in the record. Some headlines cast the FDA as the actor that recalled the drinks, while the record shows PepsiCo initiated the action and the FDA later classified it. One center-rated headline referred to millions of bottles. Right-rated coverage was a single outlet. PepsiCo did not immediately respond on refunds. Consumers are told to check lot and expiration details in the recall notice and avoid recalled bottles.
