UNC Health Begins 48-Acre Campus Construction
UNC Health has begun building a 48-acre medical campus near Research Triangle Park, on Hopson Road in Durham near Cary, to serve a fast-growing region expected to add about 44,000 residents by 2035. The campus is set to open with a six-story medical office building and parking deck in 2028, offering specialty and outpatient services including cancer care; a community hospital with emergency and surgical services is planned for 2032. UNC says the project will bring care closer to home and eventually employ about 1,000 people. The development is part of a broader contest among Triangle health systems to expand capacity in western Wake and nearby communities, with Duke developing a Cary medical complex and WakeMed planning to expand its Cary hospital.
