Xavier-Ochsner Earns Preliminary Medical-School Accreditation

The Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine has received preliminary accreditation from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, clearing the New Orleans school to recruit students for its inaugural class, planned for summer 2027. Founded through a partnership between Xavier University of Louisiana and Ochsner Health, it will be the Gulf South’s only HBCU medical school. The institutions say the school aims to broaden access to medical education, diversify the physician workforce and help address regional doctor shortages; its first class is expected to include about 50 students.
