Amgen Reports Combo Cuts Lung Cancer Death Risk 58%
A Phase 3 trial found that Amgen’s Imdelltra (tarlatamab) combined with AstraZeneca’s Imfinzi (durvalumab) reduced the risk of death by 58% compared with Imfinzi alone when used as maintenance treatment for extensive-stage small cell lung cancer that had not progressed after initial chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Median overall survival was 21.1 months with the combination versus 12.7 months with Imfinzi alone; the combination also reduced the risk of progression or death by 66% and produced a higher response rate. Benefits were observed across prespecified patient groups, including people with brain or liver metastases. Serious treatment-related adverse events were more common with the combination than with Imfinzi alone, while reports described the medicines’ overall safety profiles as consistent with their known effects and noted few treatment discontinuations and no treatment-related deaths.
