Grand Jury Declines Indictment After Infant’s Hot-Car Death
A Kentucky grand jury declined to indict family doctor Stacey Fazenbaker in the August death of her 10-month-old granddaughter, Scottie Crowell, after finding insufficient probable cause. Police said Fazenbaker was supposed to take Scottie to daycare but instead left her in the car while she worked; the child was discovered about eight hours later after her father learned she had not arrived at daycare. Authorities said police conducted an investigation and presented the findings to the grand jury, but secrecy rules prevent officials from disclosing its reasoning. Scottie’s parents were consulted during the investigation, and the county attorney asked the public to keep the grieving family in their thoughts.
