Smith County inmate recaptured after escaping during dialysis treatment

Ricardo Rodriguez-Medina, 27, was recaptured Friday after escaping custody while receiving dialysis treatment at a Tyler clinic. Authorities said he slipped out of handcuffs and fled on foot Thursday, discarding his orange jail uniform in nearby woods. Officials had expressed concern for his well-being because he requires dialysis every two to three days, as well as for public safety. Rodriguez-Medina had been jailed on charges of online solicitation of a minor and sexual assault of a child; additional escape-related charges are expected.
