Heavy Snow, Strong Winds Expected Across West, Alaska
National Weather Service advisories forecast hazardous snow and wind across several western states. Idaho’s Sun Valley region could receive 4 to 10 inches at higher elevations, while parts of the Sierra Nevada and Yosemite-area mountains could see up to 18 inches. Colorado forecasts call for up to 10 inches in some mountain communities and as much as 14 inches in the Eastern San Juan Mountains, with gusty winds and difficult travel expected. Along the California-Nevada border, including the Lake Tahoe area, up to a foot of snow and winds reaching 45 mph are possible. Separately, a winter storm warning for Alaska’s Northern Susitna Valley calls for 7 to 15 inches through Friday, with visibility potentially dropping to a quarter mile or less; officials urge drivers to use headlights, allow extra space, and avoid passing snowplows.
