Highway 37 set for 55-hour flood-prep closure
Caltrans will close State Route 37 between Vallejo’s Mare Island and Sears Point for 55 hours, from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, to raise flood-prone sections of the roadway ahead of a potentially powerful El Niño season. Crews plan to elevate about 1,300 feet of the highway by roughly three feet, while overnight partial closures Wednesday and Thursday will support preparatory work. The route serves about 40,000 drivers daily, and detours using other North Bay highways could substantially lengthen trips. The emergency repairs are separate from a longer-term widening project, for which the state recently authorized $100 million.
