Historic Springfield Monument Shop Closes After SUV Crash

Arnold Monument Company’s historic shop at 1435 Monument Ave. in Springfield, Illinois, has been closed indefinitely after an SUV crashed into the building on Oct. 20. The driver reportedly meant to reverse out of the parking lot but shifted into drive, sending the vehicle into the structure; no one was injured. The SUV remains in place while structural engineers assess the damage, and whether the building can reopen will depend on its stability and repair costs. The company’s other Springfield location remains open to customers.
