Hong Kong launches HK$2.5 billion InnoHK cluster with Nobel laureates and global partners

Hong Kong launched SEAM@InnoHK, the third InnoHK research cluster led by HKSTP in collaboration with the Innovation and Technology Commission, to advance four frontier fields: sustainable development, energy, advanced manufacturing and materials. Eight R&D centres were approved, with funding around HK$2.5 billion, and partnerships spanning top local and international universities and research institutes across Europe, the UK, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Japan and more. The initiative emphasizes real-world applications to accelerate Hong Kong’s development into an international I&T hub and strengthen high-end manufacturing and green transition in line with national and regional plans. Notable collaborations involve Nobel Laureates and leading institutions such as Cambridge, EPFL, Nagoya University, NUS, Tsinghua and Peking University, reflecting a cross-Eurasian network. Government leaders and HKSTP executives, including Professor Sun Dong, Cordelia Chung, Kevin Choi and Lyu Feng, underscored the program’s strategic importance, governance, and international collaboration capacity. The launch consolidates Hong Kong’s position as a global I&T hub by expanding platforms for global research collaboration and industry-ready innovations.
