Houston First Responder Releases 30-Year Memoir

Jason Slabbaert’s memoir, Lawdog, recounts three decades in emergency response and law enforcement, from volunteer firefighting and bounty hunting to work as a Houston-area sheriff’s deputy. The book traces his path into public service and reflects on traumatic calls and their lasting emotional impact, while balancing harrowing episodes with blunt, self-deprecating humor. It spans assignments including patrol, K-9 work, special operations and hurricane deployments, and closes with Slabbaert helping a seriously injured stranger at a freeway exit ramp.
