Huawei says it will launch two AI chips in 2027—the 960DT in the first quarter and the Ascend 960PR in the third—as it seeks to narrow Nvidia’s lead and expand China’s domestic AI-computing capabilities. The company is emphasizing UnifiedBus, an interconnect technology designed to link large numbers of processors so they function as a single, more powerful system, a strategy aimed at offsetting restrictions on China’s access to advanced foreign chips. Huawei says it has already shipped more than 1,000 linked AI systems to over 370 customers and is developing systems capable of connecting up to 1 million processors. Analysts will assess whether the new chips and architecture can support the training of frontier AI models, while Huawei also seeks broader adoption through customers such as DeepSeek and potential overseas markets.
