Hundreds Flock to Broome County’s First Chick-fil-A
Broome County’s first Chick-fil-A opened at Oakdale Commons in Johnson City on Oct. 15, drawing hundreds of customers, with some fans arriving the previous evening and waiting overnight in cars or outside. The restaurant began serving customers at 6:30 a.m.; staff took orders outside, and police helped manage traffic amid long lines, including a drive-thru wait of about an hour. Customers said the opening brought a long-awaited dining option closer to home, while the local owner said she hopes the restaurant will serve as a welcoming community gathering place. A second Chick-fil-A is under construction in Vestal and is expected to open in January.
